Easter Stash Busting: Pom Poms and Plastic Eggs

I know what you are thinking…. “Pom poms and plastic eggs?” The only thing I have to say is “stash busting”. For over a year I’ve had all this yarn sitting around and well I’ve really only made pom poms with it. Ok, I made a few crochet flowers too but my attention span keeps me in pom pom making land. So yarn stash busting mixed with the fact that I hoard plastic Easter eggs =Easter stash busting projects. Enjoy the simplicity and silliness!

Pom Pom & Plastic Egg Wreath

Feeling a bit cutsy and want to add just the right amount of fun into your spring wreath? Then make a Pom Pom & Plastic Egg Wreath! No video needed for this simple project!

What you’ll need

  1. Yarn for pom poms. I chose green for the grassy look.
  2. Plastic eggs
  3. Foam wreath form
  4. Hot glue
  5. Long straight pins
  6. Ribbon
  7. Scissors

Step One

Make and cover wreath form in green yarn pom poms. I used hot glue to attach them but I’ve seen other people use the tails of the pom poms to tie them on. Watch my Pom Pom and Plastic Egg Bouquet video below to learn how to make a pom pom. FYI the pom pom making is the most time consuming part. Don’t want to use pom poms? Try moss from your local garden store instead.

Step Two

Use straight pins to attach the eggs. To do this separate your egg and poke the straight pin through the inside of the top half about a 1/4 inch up from the lip of the top half of the egg. Add a wee bit of hot glue to the tip of the pin then push to pin into the wreath. Attach the bottom half of the egg. Repeat with rest of eggs.

Step Three

Embellish with different color ribbon and run ribbon or string up for hanging purposes.

Step Four

Hang on door!

Pom Pom & Plastic Egg Bouquet

A very easy way to add a splash of color to your Easter decorations. The different textures really add to the uniqueness of this wacky little project. Think of it as a fun conversational piece. “Where did you get your inspiration for that Andrea?” “Ohh you know I love Dr. Seuss and while reading Green Eggs and Ham for the 46th time it donned on me that I should bring to life the Green Eggs and Ham landscape. As a highly tuned creative I naturally gravitated towards pom poms and fake eggs to represent the gentle yet rambunctious nature of the Dr. Seuss era.” You might need to practice saying that with a semi straight face before your guests come over ;)

What’ you’ll need

  1. Yarn in various colors
  2. Plastic eggs
  3. BBQ Skewers
  4. Hot glue
  5. Small container like a soup can
  6. Can embellishments like paper and ribbon
  7. Floral foam to keep your stems in place
  8. Fake Easter grass
  9. Nail and hammer in case your eggs act up!

Watch the How-To video.

Canvas Book Vase

Newsflash! I have a hard time taking a product and actually using it as intended….. Take the Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books by C&T Publishing for instance. They have so many great qualities. The first that comes to mind is how they are a great out of the box already bound canvas book ready for your artsy and memory keeping creative adventures. I have used these books in the past for collage calendars using TAP (Transfer Artist Paper) and have ambitions of using them for some memory books for my friends. After easily creating all kinds of bookish projects with the Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books I found myself yearning to push the creative boundaries by to creating a non-book project while still retaining the binding of the Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books. So why not make it into a vase I ask myself? Seems just like the type of crazy creative challenge that I love! Turns out to be one of the easiest least time consuming projects I’ve created with the Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books. In just a few simple steps you too can have a neat canvas vase to spruce up your table decor! Come join Lisa Fulmer and I tonight in the C&T Digital Lounge for live crafting fun where we’ll show you how to decorate your table with little more than some Ready-to-Go! Blank Canvas Books, Ultra-Light Lutradur, a little fabric, a little paint, a little fusing, and a little stitching! We start at 6 pacific 8 central 9 eastern here!

Pretty Purse Box

I have to admit that I am a huge fan of heart-shaped crafts. I love making Valentines and basically pasting hearts to everything in sight including living things such as my dog Gracie. This year I gave myself a bit of a challenge for Valentines day crafts. I must abstain from making anything heart-shaped. Booooooo!! That’s a hard one but as you might know I love a challenge. After many weeks of chocolate box fails I finally in the nick of time came up with this pretty purse. It’s the perfect gift box for Teachers, girlfriends, co-workers, daughters, moms and every other female in your life! The cherry on top? This petite treat box utilizes very little materials/tools, comes with a video demo and a FREE template!Adorable Purse Box Template by Andrea Currie

Materials/Tools
1) Heavy paper: 2 pieces of card stock or 1 piece of scrapbook paper. If you are feeling Craft-Tastic use a cereal box!
2) Warm glue or quick drying glue
3) Scissors
4) Free Template

Optional
1) Paper Embellishments
2) Brads and a pinhole punch to place them
