Craft-Tastic: How It All Began

A Craft-Tastic LIVE badgeyear ago yesterday I set out on a journey to celebrate crafting. How? I wanted to start my own online craft show. My quest was to find my own unique crafty tribe—innovative crafters seeking the same playful craft world that I was.

For me, mastering the technology was the easy part since I have a technical day job, a technical hubby, and great companies like UStream and Linqto to support me. This didn’t mean I went into Craft-Tastic LIVE without my share of insecurities. How would I look on camera? Are my crafts just lame? What if no one showed up? And how would I possibly be able to create new, fun crafts every week?

Throughout the year I overcame most of those issues and simply managed the rest. My entrepreneurial spirit sometimes made me lose sight of my original goal, as I fell into obsessing over the amount of Craft-Tastic fans, subscribers and viewers I was accumulating. Some days I’d find myself riding the high of rapidly aggregating numbers only to be deflated at show time when just a handful of people showed up. Proof that it’s easy to get derailed, especially for us creative types with short attention spans ;)

Yes, at times throughout the year I definitely wanted to quit. I was tired and had those weekends that I would rather have spent with my husband Cliff at the zoo than in my craft room pulling out my hair trying to think up something magnificent for the next craft demo. Even though I had moments of self doubt, I came to realize that I had met my goal long before the one-year mark was up. About 6 months in, I’d met some amazing people who whole heartedly supported me, even when I demo’d total craftastrophies—anyone remember the glittered split peas?!

Whenever I found myself questioning the road I was on, a kind word would show up in my Inbox. And it didn’t stop there. Throughout the past year of Craft-Tastic adventures, my viewers cheered me on; participated in my wacky contests (Lady Gaga Challenge anyone?); sent me buttons, cards and scrapbook pages; not to mention free products to test. If I only learned one thing this year, it would be that Craft-Tastic members supported me long before I ever realized it. For that I’m most thankful.

As for the “What Now?” With the love and support of Cliff, fans and viewers, Craft-Tastic LIVE will not only go on, but also expand in a variety of exciting ways that we can’t wait to share with you in the coming months. Without your love and support we wouldn’t be able to carry on with this crafty journey, and for that I cannot thank you enough ♥

I will leave you to giggle at my very first episode! Come to Craft-Tastic LIVE every Tuesday night 7 pacific 9 central 10 eastern  to see how things have changed :)

Cork and bottle cap trees

It’s projects like these that make my husband stop looking at me strange for collecting bottlecaps and corks! It really doesn’t take much more than sparkles and glue to finish off these two eco-friendly and fun projects.
